NEW VIDEO: Don’t Fly Wizzness Class | Dave Carroll

Don’t Fly Wizzness Class

I was first approached about this project back in May and here we are. Oct 21.  Launch day for my first customer service airline video in 16 years.

‘Don’t Fly Wizzness Class’ amounts to my “just when I thought I was out…they pull me back in” moment!

I’ve been asked 100’s of times to create a song and video for other people’s bad customer service experiences and never have, until today.  The timing was right, Sukhrob’s motivations were genuine and his commitment to be involved in this project was compelling.

What WIZZ Air did  to Sukhrob was exceptionally disrespectful and costly.  It looks like he was targeted because he comes from a developing country, outside the EU. It seems likely that the airline gambled that people who fit his profile would be unlikely to raise a loud enough stir on their own to hold the airline to account.

Maybe they were right.

However, I’ve travelled all over the world as a speaker about United Breaks Guitars and one thing I’ve discovered is that all human beings are mostly the same.  We have more in common than we don’t and I have yet to meet a person who doesn’t desire or deserve respect.

Sukhrob was disrespected and suffered because of it. He felt the same humiliation and frustration that you or I would but not everyone has the same platform.

I happen to have a slightly elevated platform to tell stories and I think what happened to him was wrong and unnecessary. So we agreed to speak up, together, to be louder than he is on his own and now I’m asking you to join us with your voice.

Share with everyone you know. If you like it enough to watch it a second time, please do to give us extra reach because every voice matters.

Thank you for reading. Now… on with the show. We’re extremely proud to officially launch ‘Don’t Fly Wizzness Class.’  We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it for you.

LYRICS:

Sukhrob Ubaydullaev,
Another David fighting Goliath.
I’d like to share a little tale of his,
About a certain airline
That they call WIZZ.
I know a guy,
Sukhrob is his name.
He bought a ticket on a WIZZ airplane.
He’s from Uzbekistan,
A kind and friendly man,
Departing Rome for Samarkand.
He showed his documents and they were fine,
The ones he’d used to fly around a million times.
Gee WIZZ, you’re pickin’ on the Uzbeks.
Denied their boarding,
But you kept his cash.
Gee WIZZ, show a little respect.
Do what you promise —
Is that a lot to ask?
‘Cause everyone regrets
Flying Wizzness Class.
Wizz wouldn’t compensate
They left him all alone
It took him two weeks
To get home from Rome.
He slept on Turkish streets,
Too low on dough to eat.
The airline ghosted
His emails and tweets.
He paid a price,
For nothing wrong.
Still the nightmare went on
and on,and on, and on.
Gee WIZZ, you’re pickin’ on the Uzbeks.
Denied their boarding,
But you kept his cash.
Gee WIZZ, show a little respect.
Do what you promise —
Is that a lot to ask?
‘Cause everyone regrets
Flying Wizzness Class.
If you buy
An ultra-super low-cost ticket on a Wizz Air flight,
It can get a little pricey
When they randomly
Kick you off
And leave you in a pickle
In the middle of the night,
And they don’t refund your money
Their bar of excellence is on the floor,
But they give you even less than you bargained for.
You buy a ticket,
The die is cast.
You’re gonna leave thirsty
With an empty glass.
But that’s the Wizz Air Promise
In Wizzness Class.
Gee WIZZ, you’re pickin’ on the Uzbeks.
Denied their boarding,
But you kept his cash.
Gee WIZZ, show a little respect.
Do what you promise
Is that a lot to ask?
‘Cause everyone regrets
Flying Wizzness Class

Jamie Robinson was the primary producer for the record. This recording represents contributions from talented musicians, mix engineers, a gifted mastering engineer, family and team members and of course, the fans. The first single, When The World Stops Ending was co-written over Zoom calls with Jamie Robinson during the first Covid-19 lockdown.

These days the world seems more divided than ever. So my wish is that the enduring effect of hearing these songs, will be to remind people that we have more in common with each other than we don’t. While it would be easy to write polarizing music that appeals to one side more than another, I’ve decided to intentionally write music designed to bring people together.

Power of Storytelling

In the coming months, I’ll be releasing my first illustrated children’s book called Tom The Tomato Plant. One of the songs from Until One Day, called The Giant, is the official theme song for the story. I’m excited to integrate my creative work with things I’m passionate about. I’m conscious of making sure I remain aligned with my values in all the things I promote. That’s another reason I’m proud of this recording.

Storytelling is the tie that binds it all together for me and I see our lives as being peppered with a relatively small number of defining moments that stand out in our personal journey. In every good story those meaningful moments are preceded by some variation of the words ‘until one day.’ These are the moments when you decide you’ve had enough or when something motivates you to set you off in a new direction. In those moments, everything changes.

Without an audience willing to listen, I’d still make music but part of the drive for me is writing songs that connect us. So, I wrote this album with you the listener in mind.  If you’ve enjoyed any of my music in the past, please take some time to sample Until One Day. With 9 years between releases, this collection represents my best since 2012. I consider it to be a positive  evolution in my writing and delivery. The process of creating Until One Day has been enjoyable, but I made it for you. I hope you like it.

NEW VIDEO: When The World Stops Ending | Dave Carroll

When The World Stops Ending

Over the past few months, I’ve had a chance to reflect and work on some new music. In the process Jamie Robinson and I wrote a timely new song called When The World Stops Ending. We wrote the song over Zoom, recorded our parts in isolation and Josh Parlee edited the video from London. No one was ever in the same room together for this project.

At a time when people have been reviewing their priorities, renewing family relationships and seeing themselves in the faces of both loved ones and strangers, the purpose of this song is to encourage listeners to remember that everyone in the world has more in common with each other than they do not. I believe that hope, resilience and compassion are choices we continue to have at our disposal.

Thank you for continuing to support my habit of trying to improve the world with my music. I hope this song encourages and inspires you.
